Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Sessions

How long are therapy sessions?

Telehealth sessions are 30 minutes, conducted via a secure telehealth platform. This duration allows for focused, effective therapy while maintaining engagement. In-person sessions may run longer to account for material management and transitions.

How often do we meet?

Most clients attend weekly sessions to support consistent progress. Session frequency may be adjusted based on individual needs, therapeutic goals, clinical recommendations, insurance coverage, and response to intervention.

What does a typical session look like?

Sessions include a mix of direct instruction, therapeutic and interactive games and activities, and skill-building exercises tailored to the patient’s specific goals, interests, and abilities.

How do you track progress?

We monitor progress continuously through clinical observations, periodic assessments, and therapy plan reviews.

Technology & Telehealth

What technology do we need?

  • Reliable internet connection

  • Computer or tablet with a camera and microphone

  • Quiet space for sessions without distractions

  • We provide access to our HIPAA-compliant video platform

Is telehealth really as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes! Research shows equivalent outcomes for speech and language goals. We've seen consistently positive results with virtual sessions over the past several years.

What if we have technical difficulties?

We will help troubleshoot technical issues and provide backup options. Most technical problems can be resolved quickly, and we can always reschedule if needed.

Can parents observe sessions?

Caregivers are welcome to sit in on telehealth sessions. Alternatively, progress updates and home practice strategies can be shared via email for those who need or prefer to use session time for other responsibilities.

About Our Approach

What does the term neurodiversity-affirming mean?

We believe that differences in communication and behavior are natural variations of the human experience. Our goal is not to "fix" or eliminate these differences, but to understand and support each individual’s authentic self. We emphasize the development of practical skills that enhance meaningful and prosocial interactions with peers, family members, and colleagues.

How do you work with families?

We collaborate closely with parents throughout the process, sharing strategies, celebrating progress, and ensuring skills transfer to home and school environments.

Do you work with schools?

With your consent, we are happy to collaborate with teachers and school teams to promote consistency across settings. Please note that an additional fee may apply for this service.

What ages do you serve?

We primarily work with children (age 5+), adolescents, and young adults. Our approach adapts to each developmental stage and individual needs. If you’re an adult interested in services, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Specific Concerns

My teen is resistant to therapy. Can you help?

Many teens are more willing to participate in online sessions. We focus on building rapport and making therapy relevant to their goals and interests.

How do you treat social communication in autism?

We specialize in Level 1 ASD and use evidence-based approaches that respect neurodiversity while building functional social skills.

Can you help with college preparation?

Yes! We work on communication skills needed for academic and social success in higher education settings.

Do you provide evaluations?

Yes, we conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess needs and develop personalized treatment plans.

Are there specific disorders you do not treat?

Yes. While I am certified and have experience evaluating and treating a wide range of communication needs, my practice is intentionally focused on areas where I have the greatest expertise, passion, and clinical alignment. For these reasons, I do not currently provide services in the following areas:

  • Fluency disorders (stuttering and cluttering)

  • Feeding and swallowing disorders

  • Voice and resonance disorders

  • Selective mutism

  • Dyslexia and reading-based language disorders

  • Auditory habilitation/rehabilitation

  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)

  • Cleft lip and palate

Additionally, my practice may not be the most appropriate fit for individuals with complex or profound developmental disabilities, including those with more intensive support needs related to autism. This is due to the nature of my telehealth delivery model and physical office setting, which may not offer the level of sensory or behavioral support these individuals deserve. In these cases, I am happy to refer you to trusted colleagues and specialized clinics better equipped to meet such needs.
