Meet Julie
Hello! My name is Julie and I am a dedicated and experienced speech-language pathologist with a passion for supporting children, adolescents, and young adults in developing clear and confident communication skills — enabling individuals to build meaningful connections with a wide range of communication partners across home, work, school, and community settings.
My Background
I earned Bachelor's degrees in both International Relations and Spanish from the University of California, Davis in 2009, followed by a third Bachelor's in Communicative Disorders from Utah State University in 2013. I completed my Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Virginia in 2015. Since then, I've gained diverse clinical experience across hospitals, private clinics, schools, and young adult transition programs.
I currently serve clients within my private practice, Mount Si Speech & Language, providing diagnosis and therapy for a variety disorders, including those related to articulation and speech sound production, receptive and expressive language, social cognition and communication, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. In the near future, I will be offering specialized services for individuals experiencing language-related executive functioning difficulties, with a focus on building practical, goal-directed skills.
My Approach
My practice is rooted in the belief that all individuals are best served by support that honors their unique ways of thinking and interacting with the world. I follow neurodiversity-affirming principles, which means I value and respect natural differences in communication and behavior rather than viewing them as deficits. At the same time, I help patients develop tools and strategies to successfully navigate various social contexts, not by masking who they are or pressuring them to adapt to neurotypical norms, but by fostering functional, generalizable, and impactful skills that support authentic communication and connection.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have embraced telehealth as a primary mode of service delivery. Through both observation and measurable outcomes, I’ve found that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions — offering increased access, improved attendance, and greater flexibility and convenience for patients and their families.
I believe in a collaborative approach, involving families and caregivers throughout the therapy process. This includes providing information, education, and training; creating home therapy programs when appropriate; connecting families with community resources; and collaborating with other healthcare providers and educational teams to ensure generalization of learned skills beyond the therapy room.
My Connection to the Pacific Northwest
Born and raised in Southern California, my husband and I made a deliberate decision to leave behind the perpetual sunshine of San Diego and instead embrace the moody perfection that is the Pacific Northwest. Here in the Snoqualmie Valley, the weather is a dynamic tapestry — each day unfolding with its own rhythm of clouds, rain, and sought-after breaks of sunshine. This variability reminds me to appreciate each day's uniqueness and potential.
Together with my husband, our two young daughters, and our loyal lovable mess of a dog, we find joy in puddle jumping and exploring the outdoors, immersing ourselves in the rhythm of the seasons. This deep connection to nature grounds me and brings clarity to my professional pursuits. Whether I'm exploring new ideas or solving complex problems, nature remains my most reliable reset button.
What Colleagues Say
I am recognized by colleagues for being knowledgeable, friendly, approachable, adaptable, and collaborative. I’m proud to be a trusted resource among my professional peers — especially when it comes to navigating social cognition and pragmatic language challenges — an area of strong clinical interest that has become a key focus of my professional practice.
My Commitment to You
I'm committed to being an unwavering advocate for each and every one of my patients, ensuring they receive the support and resources they need to succeed. If you're seeking an experienced, dedicated, and client-centered speech-language pathologist who values strength- and evidence-based collaborative care, I'm here to help.
